The Loneliest Whale: The Search for 52​

The 2021 documentary film directed by Joshua Zeman focuses on the search for the elusive "52-hertz whale," known for its unique vocalization at a 52-hertz frequency, differing from that of other whales. This peculiarity has led to the belief that the whale spends its life in solitude, unable to communicate with its kind. In the film, Zeman, along with a team of scientists and oceanographers, embarks on an expedition to locate this whale, exploring not only its possible whereabouts but also addressing issues such as ocean noise pollution and its impact on marine life. The film is produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and Adrian Grenier. It premiered at the Nantucket Film Festival on June 17, 2021, and was released in limited theaters and on video-on-demand starting July 9, 2021.​
