The Mysterious Island

A Robinson Crusoe novel by the French writer Jules Verne. First published from January 1, 1874 to December 15, 1875. The novel was illustrated by Jules-Descartes Ferat. The novel is a continuation of Jules Verne's previously published works "The Children of Captain Grant" and "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea". It tells of events that took place on a fictional island where several people fleeing America as a result of the Civil War were thrown in a hot air balloon. The main characters are five Americans who find themselves on an uninhabited island in the Pacific Ocean.
