The Night Before

A 1988 American comedy directed by Thom Eberhardt. The film follows the misadventures of high school student Winston Connelly (Keanu Reeves), vice president of the astronomy club, who is considered a nerd by his classmates. He unexpectedly gets the chance to attend the prom with Tara Mitchell (Lori Loughlin), the popular head cheerleader and daughter of the local police chief. However, events take an unforeseen turn: Winston regains consciousness at night in an alley with no memory of how he got there. Gradually, through a series of flashbacks, he reconstructs the events of the previous evening. It turns out that on their way to the prom, he and Tara got lost in the troubled neighborhood of East Los Angeles. There, they encounter a mugger who steals Winston's wallet. In an attempt to make sense of the situation, Winston returns to a bar they had visited earlier and learns from a prostitute named Rhonda that he accidentally sold Tara to a pimp named Tito for $1,500. Now, Winston must find and rescue Tara from human traffickers, retrieve his father's stolen car, and evade Tito's wrath after Tito discovers whose daughter he has acquired. The film is filled with comedic situations and showcases how the main character, despite his naivety and clumsiness, demonstrates determination and resourcefulness in critical situations to correct his mistakes and save Tara.
