The Player

A 1992 American film in the genre of black comedy and mystery, directed by Robert Altman. The main character, Griffin Mill (Tim Robbins), is a high-ranking executive at a Hollywood studio responsible for selecting scripts for production. He regularly rejects writers' proposals, causing dissatisfaction and escalating conflicts. One day, he begins receiving threats from an unknown person, presumably from one of the rejected screenwriters. Trying to resolve the situation, Griffin meets David Kahane (Vincent D'Onofrio), one of the writers, and during their meeting, a tragic altercation occurs, in which Griffin accidentally kills Kahane. Afterward, Griffin tries to cover up the crime by staging it as an accident and starts a relationship with the deceased's girlfriend, artist June Gudmundsdottir (Greta Scacchi). However, the investigation led by detectives Avery (Whoopi Goldberg) and DeLongpre (Lyle Lovett) increasingly suspects Griffin, and ambitious screenwriter Larry Levy (Peter Gallagher) arrives at the studio, vying for Griffin's position. The situation becomes more complicated, and Griffin finds himself at the heart of a major Hollywood conspiracy. The film is filled with numerous cinematic references and cameos by famous actors, adding extra layers and making it especially ironic and sharp.
