The State Counsellor

A Russian historical detective thriller based on the novel of the same name by Boris Akunin. Set in the late 19th century in the Russian Empire, the story follows Erast Petrovich Fandorin (Oleg Menshikov), a brilliant detective and former state counsellor. When General Khrapov (Mikhail Efremov) is murdered on a train, the killer leaves a forged document signed by Fandorin, making him the prime suspect. In an effort to clear his name and uncover the real culprit, Fandorin finds himself entangled with the terrorist group "Combat Organization" and its leader Green (Aleksei Gorbunov). Along the way, he crosses paths with powerful figures, including Prince Pozdnyshev (Nikita Mikhalkov), the head of the security department, who has his own hidden agenda. The film captures the pre-revolutionary Russian atmosphere, filled with palace intrigues, secret conspiracies, and a gripping detective storyline.
