The 2012 French-Canadian romantic science fantasy film directed by Juan Diego Solanas presents a unique universe where two planets with opposite gravities exist in close proximity. In this world, three immutable laws of gravity apply: all matter is attracted only by the gravity of its own world; an object's weight can be offset using "inverse matter" from the opposite world; after a few hours of contact, matter and inverse matter begin to burn. The protagonist, Adam (Jim Sturgess), lives in the impoverished lower world and has been in love with Eden (Kirsten Dunst) from the affluent upper world since childhood. Their secret meetings atop a mountain where the two worlds nearly touch lead to tragedy when Eden loses her memory after a fall, and Adam is forced into hiding. Ten years later, upon seeing Eden on television, Adam infiltrates the upper world through the "TransWorld" corporation to reconnect with her. Using inverse matter, he disguises himself as an upper-world resident and grows close to Eden, who doesn't recall their past. Their relationship is soon discovered, forcing Adam to flee. With the help of colleague Bob (Timothy Spall), who utilizes Adam's research to neutralize gravity, he reunites with Eden. The film explores themes of love, social inequality, and overcoming physical and societal barriers, combining a visually stunning world with an emotional narrative. Despite a budget of $50 million, the film grossed approximately $22 million worldwide but was recognized for its originality and visual effects.
