A 1998 American science fiction disaster film directed by Michael Bay and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The plot follows a group of oil drillers hired by NASA to destroy a gigantic Texas-sized asteroid on a collision course with Earth, threatening complete annihilation of the planet. The protagonist, Harry Stamper (Bruce Willis), is considered the best deep-sea oil driller in the world. NASA approaches him to lead a mission to drill a hole into the asteroid's surface and plant a nuclear bomb to destroy it. Harry assembles a team of his trusted colleagues: A.J. Frost (Ben Affleck), a young and talented driller romantically involved with Harry's daughter, Grace Stamper (Liv Tyler); Charles "Chick" Chapple (Will Patton), an experienced specialist; Jayotis "Bear" Kurleenbear (Michael Clarke Duncan), a strong and loyal friend; Rockhound (Steve Buscemi), a brilliant but eccentric geologist; Oscar Choi (Owen Wilson), a cowboy and geologist; Max Lennert (Ken Hudson Campbell), a good-natured driller. The mission's preparation is rushed, and the team faces numerous challenges both on Earth and in space. After launching on two shuttles, "Freedom" and "Independence," they head towards the asteroid but encounter a meteor shower that causes the crash of "Independence." Crew members, including A.J., are presumed dead but later found to have survived. On the asteroid's surface, the team faces unforeseen drilling problems, leading to delays and conflicts. Ultimately, Harry sacrifices himself by manually detonating the nuclear bomb, saving humanity. The film received mixed reviews from critics but was a commercial success, grossing over $553 million worldwide. The film's soundtrack, particularly the song "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith, also gained widespread popularity.
