Casino Royale

Eon Productions released this spy film in 2006, the twenty-first in its James Bond series. It is also the third screen version of the 1953 Ian Fleming novel that shares its title. Directed by Martin Campbell, with a screenplay by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and Paul Haggis, this film marks Daniel Craig's debut as Agent 007. The plot follows James Bond at the start of his career, having recently earned his 00 status with a license to kill. His first mission leads him to Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen), a financier of terrorists, who plans to win a large sum of money in a poker tournament at the Casino Royale in Montenegro to recover his financial losses. Bond is assigned to outplay Le Chiffre and thus thwart his plans. Assisting him is Treasury agent Vesper Lynd (Eva Green), responsible for the funds allocated for the game. As the story unfolds, a romantic relationship develops between Bond and Vesper; however, it becomes apparent that Vesper harbors her own secrets and is entangled in a complex web of betrayal and intrigue. The film portrays Bond's development as an agent, his personal struggles, and the significant losses that shape his character and outlook on life.
