Chaos Walking

The 2021 American science fiction adventure film, directed by Doug Liman, is based on Patrick Ness's novel "Chaos Walking". Set in a dystopian future on the planet New World, where all women have disappeared and men's thoughts are manifested as "Noise"—visual and auditory projections—the story follows a young man named Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland) living in the settlement of Prentisstown under the leadership of Mayor Prentiss (Mads Mikkelsen). Todd discovers Viola Eade (Daisy Ridley), a girl whose spaceship has crashed on the planet. As Viola is the first woman Todd has ever encountered and her thoughts do not manifest as "Noise," her presence causes unrest among the inhabitants. Mayor Prentiss seeks to use Viola for his own ends, but Todd decides to help her reach another settlement where she can find assistance. Along the way, they face various dangers, including a fanatical preacher, Aaron (David Oyelowo), and the mayor's son, Davy Prentiss Jr. (Nick Jonas). The film explores themes of trust, power, and the nature of human thought, depicting how Todd and Viola learn to rely on each other in a world where privacy of thought is nonexistent.
