A science fiction survival story, written and directed by David Robert Mitchell. The year is 1982, the place is a quiet Michigan suburb, and the street is Oak Street. Denise Platt hopes to write a novel; her husband Greg has lost his steady job and hides from the family that he now delivers pizza. The marriage holds together on little, and Denise has privately begun to think about divorce. Their children, Audrey and Brian, live an ordinary suburban life, and nothing around them suggests trouble. The strangeness starts small. A plant comes up in a neighbour's yard, and the local librarian identifies it as a species that died out millions of years ago. A huge heap of dung from an unknown animal appears on another lot. The radio reports unusual activity on the sun. Then, during a night storm, white light floods the street, and Oak Street is cut out of its own time and set down in the age of dinosaurs. From there the film is about a family that has to stay alive: no town and no government can reach them, help is not coming, and past the edge of the familiar yards begins a world where people are not in charge. The marriage is tested too, having fallen apart quietly before the catastrophe and now facing the plain need to hold together. Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor take the leading parts, with Maisy Stella and Christian Convery as their children. The premiere took place on 9 August 2026, and the wide American release followed on 14 August.
