After Earth

The 2013 American science fiction post-apocalyptic film directed by M. Night Shyamalan, co-written with Gary Whitta, is based on an original story idea by Will Smith. Set a thousand years after a cataclysmic event forced humanity to abandon Earth and relocate to the planet Nova Prime, the story follows teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith), son of the legendary General Cypher Raige (Will Smith), renowned for his ability to suppress fear. During a joint mission, their spacecraft crashes on the now-hostile Earth, where evolved flora and fauna pose lethal threats. With Cypher severely injured, Kitai must traverse hundreds of kilometers of dangerous terrain to retrieve the ship's tail section and activate the emergency beacon. Along his journey, he faces numerous perils, including the deadly Ursa creature that hunts by sensing fear. The film delves into themes of coming of age, overcoming fear, and the father-son bond. Despite its star-studded cast and high-budget production, the film received predominantly negative reviews from critics and grossed approximately $243 million worldwide against a budget of $130 million.
