Charlie Wilson's War​

A 2007 American biographical comedy-drama film directed by Mike Nichols and written by Aaron Sorkin, based on the book by George Crile III. The film depicts the true story of U.S. Congressman Charlie Wilson (Tom Hanks), who, in the 1980s, played a pivotal role in Operation Cyclone, a covert CIA program to support Afghan mujahideen in their fight against Soviet occupation. With the assistance of influential socialite and anti-communist Joanne Herring (Julia Roberts) and CIA operative Gust Avrakotos (Philip Seymour Hoffman), Wilson secures substantial funding for the rebels, ultimately contributing to the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan. Despite the military success, Wilson's efforts to secure post-war reconstruction aid for Afghanistan are met with indifference from the U.S. government.
