Checkers

This is a turn-based strategy board game for two players, representing a practice of moving pieces across a checkered board to capture the opponent's pieces through jumping. The origins of checkers trace back to ancient times: its prototype is believed to be an Egyptian board game found in a Theban tomb, dating around 3000 BCE. Over time, checkers evolved and spread across Europe and Asia, developing into numerous regional variants including English, Italian, Russian, Brazilian, and International draughts, which differ in board size, movement rules, and king abilities. Modern checkers, especially the international version, took shape in France between the 12th and 15th centuries and were further developed in the Netherlands and Russia. By the 19th and 20th centuries, organized competitions and championships became widespread, leading to the founding of the World Draughts Federation (FMJD) in 1947, which standardized rules and organizes world championships. Checkers has become part of cultural recreation and a recognized intellectual sport suitable for all ages. The game emphasizes planning, anticipating moves, sacrifices, and strategic thinking. It is actively used in educational institutions to foster logic, attention, and memory, and in countries such as Russia, Belarus, and the Netherlands, it is a widely practiced sport.
