Go

This is an ancient strategic board game that originated in China over 2,500 years ago, considered one of the oldest games continuously played to this day. Known as Weiqi in China and Baduk in Korea, Go involves two players alternately placing black and white stones on the intersections of a 19×19 grid, aiming to control the largest territory on the board. The game demands deep strategic thinking, intuition, and long-term planning, making it unique among board games. For centuries, Go has been an integral part of cultural and intellectual life in East Asia, particularly in China, Japan, and Korea, where it was regarded as an art form and a means of self-cultivation. In the 20th century, the game began to spread worldwide, attracting attention for its depth and elegance. A landmark event in Go's history was the emergence of the artificial intelligence AlphaGo, developed by DeepMind. In October 2015, AlphaGo defeated professional player Fan Hui with a score of 5–0, and in March 2016, it triumphed over one of the world's top players, Lee Sedol, with a score of 4–1, marking a breakthrough in AI and garnering global attention. In May 2017, AlphaGo won all three games against then-world number one Ke Jie, after which it retired from competitive play, leaving an indelible mark on the game's history. These events not only showcased the potential of artificial intelligence but also inspired a new generation of players to study and excel in Go. Today, Go continues to evolve, blending tradition with modern technology, remaining a symbol of intellectual mastery and cultural heritage.
