A 2004 American comedy film directed by Michael Lembeck and written by Nia Vardalos, who also stars alongside Toni Collette. The story follows two lifelong friends, Connie (Nia Vardalos) and Carla (Toni Collette), who are passionate about musical theater but find themselves performing in the lounges of Chicago airports. Their lives take a dramatic turn when they witness a mafia hit and flee to Los Angeles to escape. To hide their identities, they pose as drag queens and begin performing at a gay club called "The Handlebar." Their unique act, featuring live singing, quickly becomes a hit, leading to the creation of the successful show "Connie and Carla and the Belles of the Balls." Complications arise when Connie falls for Jeff (David Duchovny), the brother of one of their new friends. As their popularity grows, the mafia tracks them down, but with the help of their drag queen friends, they overcome the threat. The audience, believing the confrontation is part of the act, applauds enthusiastically. In the end, Connie and Carla reveal their true identities and are accepted for who they are. The film features numerous musical numbers from well-known musicals, including "Oklahoma!", "Jesus Christ Superstar", "Yentl", "Cats", "Cabaret", "Evita", and others, celebrating a love for theater and self-expression.
