The 1993 political comedy Dave tells the story of Dave Kovic (Kevin Kline), a kind-hearted owner of a temporary employment agency who happens to be a dead ringer for the President of the United States, Bill Mitchell (also played by Kline). When the real President suffers a stroke during a secret affair, White House officials, hoping to avoid a political scandal, convince Dave to stand in as a decoy. Initially intended to act as a puppet, Dave soon starts taking his role seriously, introducing positive changes to policy and surprising everyone with his sincerity and moral compass. He grows closer to First Lady Ellen Mitchell (Sigourney Weaver), who gradually realizes that the man she’s with isn’t her husband. As Dave embraces his chance to make a difference, he challenges corruption and promotes transparency and compassion in government. The film delivers a clever satire of American politics while offering a touching and inspiring story about an ordinary man who makes an extraordinary impact.
