Disclosure Day

A science fiction drama with the makings of a thriller, directed by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by David Koepp. The film is about UFOs and about the movement for disclosure — the people who have spent decades pressing their government for a straight answer about what it knows and why it says nothing. Its second subject is the larger one: what the mere possibility of contact with an extraterrestrial intelligence does to a society, and how faith, politics and daily life shift once the question of whether we are alone stops being an abstraction. The theme is an old one for the director, who returned to the meeting of people with the unknown in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Minority Report and War of the Worlds, and this work stands in the same line. Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor take the leading parts, with Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell, Elizabeth Marvel and Noah Robbins alongside them. The screenplay is by David Koepp, a collaborator since the early 1990s who had written Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds for the same director. The score was composed by John Williams, whose work with Spielberg goes back to the 1970s and covers most of his films. Amblin Entertainment produced the picture, with the director and Kristie Macosko Krieger as producers. The premiere took place on 10 June 2026 and the general run began on 12 June.
