Dogman

A 2023 French dramatic thriller directed by Luc Besson. The protagonist, Douglas (Caleb Landry Jones), endured abuse from his tyrannical father and older brother, who operated a dog fighting kennel. Due to his gentle nature, Douglas was confined to a cage with the dogs. Attempting to protect puppies from his father, he suffers a gunshot wound leading to partial paralysis. Rescued by the police, Douglas ends up in a shelter where he falls for Salma, who introduces him to the world of theater. However, their paths diverge, leaving Douglas alone. He finds his calling in a cabaret, performing as various female singers, and trains dogs to steal jewelry. When a local gang terrorizes his neighborhood, Douglas employs his trained dogs for protection. In the climax, after a confrontation with the gangsters, the police apprehend Douglas, but his loyal dogs gather at the station, attempting to free him. Overcoming his pain, Douglas walks to a church and, surrounded by his canine companions, collapses, presumably dying.
