A 1997 Russian comedy. The action takes place in the Russian North, the USA, and Moscow in the early to mid-1990s. Americans decide to verify the presence of diamond deposits near the Arkhangelsk village of Krasny Serp and send a submarine commanded by an African-American veteran (Kevin McGiar), who previously escorted allied convoys during World War II. Meanwhile, in the village, blacksmith Filimon (Mikhail Evdokimov) and his friend, clerk Pasha Gus (Sergey Agapitov), quarrel over a shot hat, and chairman Petya Khorkov (Yuri Olennikov) proposes restoring the village's pre-revolutionary name, Mindyukino. To divert attention, the Americans drop a barrel of alcohol near the shore, which Filimon retrieves. A village festivity ensues, involving the American submariners. During the celebration, the African-American veteran finds his daughter Polina (Olga Ostroumova) and grandson Vasya (Grigory Siyatvinda), born into Filimon's family. Meanwhile, the FSB notices suspicious activity of the American submarine and initiates an investigation. Eventually, Filimon faces trial for the disturbances, receiving a two-year suspended sentence with an obligation to compensate the local winery for 200 liters of alcohol.
