The 1957 American adventure film directed by Arthur Lubin, with a screenplay by Winston Miller, follows the story of young American boy Tony Saunders (Jon Provost), who, after surviving a plane crash off the coast of Japan, is rescued by a Japanese fisherman and his family. When the police arrive in the village, the fisherman's son, Asahiko Tanaka (Roger Nakagawa), fearing they might have done something wrong, decides to flee with Tony. The two boys embark on a journey across Japan, encountering various adventures and meeting a range of people, including officers, farmers, and schoolchildren. Tony's parents, Richard (Cameron Mitchell) and Mary Saunders (Teresa Wright), desperately search for their son, working alongside local authorities. The film highlights the cultural differences and similarities between Americans and Japanese, emphasizing the importance of friendship and mutual understanding. Clint Eastwood also appears in one of his early uncredited roles as a pilot.
