Exhuma

"Exhuma" is a 2024 South Korean horror film directed by Jang Jae-hyun. The story follows renowned Korean shaman Hwa-rim (Kim Go-eun) and her protégé Bong-gil, who are hired by a wealthy Korean-American family to investigate the mysterious illness of their newborn son. Hwa-rim discovers that the cause is a "Grave's Call," a vengeful ancestor's spirit haunting the family. The family's patriarch, Park Ji-yong (Choi Min-sik), entrusts them with relocating his grandfather's grave to appease the spirit. Hwa-rim enlists the help of Feng shui master and geomancer Kim Sang-deok (Yoo Hae-jin) and mortician Yeong-geun (Lee Do-hyun), promising them a generous reward. However, as they proceed with the exhumation, they encounter dreadful consequences buried beneath. The film combines elements of mystery and the occult, exploring the theme of curses and their impact on modern life. It premiered on February 16, 2024, at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival and was theatrically released in South Korea on February 22, 2024, receiving positive reviews from critics and grossing US$98 million, making it the highest-grossing South Korean film of 2024.
