Obsession

A 2025 supernatural horror: Curry Barker wrote the screenplay, directed the picture and cut it himself. Bear works in a music store and has long been in love with Nikki Freeman, who works beside him, without ever bringing himself to say so. A cheap trinket comes into his hands carrying the sort of promise such things always carry: the One Wish Willow grants a single wish to whoever breaks it. Bear wishes for Nikki to fall in love with him, and the wish comes true to the letter. Nikki falls in love in a way that stops being human: the feeling will not let go, it knows no measure, and before long it is dangerous to everyone near her. What has been done cannot be undone — the wish holds for as long as the one who made it is alive, and the toy cannot be broken a second time. The horror of the film grows from exactly that: from a wish granted and from a hero who cannot take his words back. The device has a long ancestry in the monkey's paw, where the thing granted turns against the one who asked for it. Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette take the leading parts, with Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless and Andy Richter, who plays the owner of the store, alongside them. It is Barker's first feature. The running time is 109 minutes. The first screening took place at the Toronto festival on 5 September 2025, and the wide American release began on 15 May 2026. Blumhouse Productions, Capstone Studios and Tea Shop Productions made the film.
