Marrowbone

A 2017 English-language Spanish psychological horror mystery drama film written and directed by Sergio G. Sánchez. The story follows the Marrowbone family, consisting of mother Rose (Nicola Harrison) and her four children: eldest son Jack (George MacKay), daughter Jane (Mia Goth), son Billy (Charlie Heaton), and youngest son Sam (Matthew Stagg). In 1968, they relocate from England to Rose's ancestral home in rural Maine, USA, to start anew, hiding from their abusive father. After Rose's death, the children decide to conceal her passing to avoid separation and continue living in isolation, fearing discovery. Eldest son Jack takes responsibility for the family and begins courting local girl Allie (Anya Taylor-Joy), who works at the library. However, strange and frightening events start occurring in the house, linked to a mysterious presence in the attic, leading to the revelation of dark secrets within the Marrowbone family. The film explores themes of familial bonds, past traumas, and the struggle for survival in isolation, creating a tense atmosphere of a mystical thriller.
