Regression

A 2015 psychological thriller co-produced by the United States, Spain, and Canada, directed and written by Alejandro Amenábar. Set in Minnesota in 1990, the story follows Detective Bruce Kenner (Ethan Hawke) as he investigates the case of 17-year-old Angela Gray (Emma Watson), who accuses her father, John (David Dencik), of sexual abuse. John confesses despite having no memory of the events. Psychologist Dr. Kenneth Raines (David Thewlis) is brought in to help recover John's memories through hypnotic regression. As the investigation deepens, suspicions arise about a satanic cult involved in ritualistic abuse. However, as events unfold, it becomes evident that hypnosis may induce false memories, leading the detective to question the validity of the accusations. The film delves into themes of mass hysteria, manipulation of consciousness, and the dangers of uncritical acceptance of information.​
