A 2017 American psychological horror film directed by Jordan Peele in his directorial debut. The plot follows a young African-American photographer, Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya), who accompanies his white girlfriend, Rose Armitage (Allison Williams), for a weekend visit to her family's secluded estate to meet her parents. Chris feels uneasy about their interracial relationship, but Rose assures him that her parents are not racist. Upon arrival, Chris meets Rose's parents: her father, neurosurgeon Dean (Bradley Whitford), and her mother, psychiatrist Missy (Catherine Keener). Although the Armitage family appears welcoming, Chris notices odd behavior from their Black staff: housekeeper Georgina (Betty Gabriel) and groundskeeper Walter (Marcus Henderson). Missy offers Chris a hypnotherapy session to help him quit smoking but instead induces a paralyzing state called the "Sunken Place." Gradually, Chris uncovers the Armitage family's sinister plot to transplant the consciousness of aging white people into the bodies of young African-Americans using hypnosis and surgery. He discovers that Rose is complicit in this scheme, luring Black men and women to her family's home. In a desperate bid for survival, Chris confronts the Armitage family members, employing his wits and determination to escape the horrifying ordeal. The film explores themes of racism, exploitation, and social inequality, blending elements of horror and satire.
