Foyle's War

A British detective television series created by screenwriter and author Anthony Horowitz, "Foyle's War" ran on ITV for thirteen years, opening in October 2002 and closing in January 2015. Set in England during and shortly after the Second World War, primarily in the town of Hastings, Sussex, the series follows Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle (Michael Kitchen), a widower known for his methodical approach, integrity, and pursuit of justice. Despite his desire to contribute directly to the war effort, his requests for transfer are denied, leading him to investigate crimes on the home front, including murder, profiteering, and corruption amid wartime chaos. Two people work at his side. Behind the wheel is Samantha "Sam" Stewart (Honeysuckle Weeks); on the police work he is joined by Detective Sergeant Paul Milner (Anthony Howell), a former soldier who lost a leg in combat. In later seasons, after retiring from the police force, Foyle is recruited by MI5 to tackle cases involving Cold War espionage. The series is acclaimed for its historical accuracy, complex character development, and intricate storylines that explore the moral complexities of wartime Britain.
