The Japanese animated television series in the genre of comedy action and science fiction, based on the manga by Hideaki Sorachi, first aired in 2006 and continued until 2010, encompassing 201 episodes. Set in an alternate version of Edo (modern-day Tokyo), Earth has been invaded by aliens known as Amanto, who have banned the carrying of swords, thereby suppressing the samurai culture. The main protagonist, Gintoki Sakata (voiced by Tomokazu Sugita), is a lazy yet principled samurai with silver hair who continues to carry his sword despite the prohibition. He works alongside his apprentice Shinpachi Shimura (voiced by Daisuke Sakaguchi) and an alien girl named Kagura (voiced by Rie Kugimiya), who possesses superhuman strength. Together, they form the "Yorozuya," an agency that takes on various odd jobs for payment. The series blends humor, pop culture parodies, and dramatic story arcs, exploring themes of friendship, honor, and resistance. The first 99 episodes were directed by Shinji Takamatsu, with Yoichi Fujita taking over from episode 100 onward.
