Haters

A 2021 French comedy film directed by Stéphane Marelli. The story centers on Thomas (Kev Adams), a young man who gained popularity through a video where he walks around the city with a circus llama. This video brought him fame, leading him to create a YouTube channel called "Thomas the Llama," where he posts various clips with the help of his friend and editor, KualaLumpur (Estéban). To celebrate reaching one million subscribers, Thomas plans to shoot an impressive video using a drone at a llama farm. However, the filming ends in disaster when the drone crashes. Attempting to rectify the situation, he decides to host a live stream from his apartment, during which he intends to propose to his girlfriend, Jess (Clara Joly). But everything goes awry: the presence of a llama in the apartment, the premature release of confetti, and the animal's panic lead to chaos. The video sparks a wave of negative comments and ridicule online, deeply upsetting Thomas. Jess, tired of his obsession with fame, suggests they take a break from their relationship. Following KualaLumpur's advice, Thomas decides to confront his most fervent critics—the haters—in person and record these encounters to restore his reputation. By blackmailing his neighbor, Mr. Hafner (Élie Semoun), who works at the Ministry of the Interior, Thomas obtains the addresses of his haters and sets off on a journey across France with KualaLumpur. During this trip, he meets various characters: Alex (Rayane Bensetti), the husband of his ex-girlfriend Julie, who uses her old account to post insults; Prince S. Mimi (Seth Gueko), a tough, tattooed man; Mr. Gigniou (Fred Testot), whose family practices therapy by expressing opposite emotions; Simon (Philippe Lacheau), a clothing store owner who criticizes everything except the film "The Seventh Seal"; Zoul (Pascal Demolon), a depressed man passionate about photo editing; Matche (Ludovik), a member of a gypsy family, among others. Each encounter provides Thomas with unexpected lessons and forces him to rethink his attitude towards criticism and fame. Ultimately, he realizes the value of personal relationships and decides to take a break from his online activities to reconnect with Jess, despite the ongoing mockery on the internet.
