A 2006 satirical comedy directed by Mike Judge, Idiocracy critiques anti-intellectualism and consumer culture. The story follows Joe Bauers (Luke Wilson), an average American chosen for a military hibernation experiment. However, due to an error, he wakes up 500 years later in a society that has declined to absurd levels of ignorance, where mindless entertainment and consumption dominate daily life. Joe, now the smartest person in the world, is forced to take on the role of civilization’s unlikely savior. He is aided by prostitute Rita (Maya Rudolph) and the naive but well-meaning Frito (Dax Shepard). The film delivers sharp satire on modern society and remains relevant for its humor and insightful social commentary.
