The 2008 British black comedy-drama crime thriller, directed and written by Martin McDonagh in his feature-length debut, tells the story of two London-based Irish hitmen — Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken (Brendan Gleeson) — who, after a botched job, are sent to the Belgian city of Bruges on the orders of their boss, Harry Waters (Ralph Fiennes). Ray, traumatized by the accidental killing of a child during his first assignment, despises the city and struggles with guilt, while Ken enjoys the architecture and atmosphere of Bruges. During their stay, Ray meets Chloë (Clémence Poésy), a local woman, and Jimmy (Jordan Prentice), a dwarf actor filming a movie. It gradually becomes clear that Harry sent them to Bruges not only to lay low but also for Ken to kill Ray for his mistake. However, Ken, seeing Ray's suffering, decides to save him, leading to a confrontation with Harry, who arrives in Bruges to handle the situation personally. The film explores themes of guilt, redemption, and friendship against the backdrop of the picturesque medieval city.
