Nightcrawler

An American neo-noir crime thriller from 2014, directed and written by Dan Gilroy in his directorial debut. The film follows Lou Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal), an unemployed man who discovers the world of crime journalism in Los Angeles. Lou begins filming nighttime incidents—accidents, crimes, and other emergencies—and selling the footage to local news stations. His ambition and lack of moral principles lead him to interfere with events to capture more sensational footage. Lou hires an assistant, Rick (Riz Ahmed), whom he pays a meager salary, and forms a close relationship with news producer Nina Romina (Rene Russo), who is desperate for ratings and willing to overlook his methods. As Lou becomes more successful, his actions grow increasingly dangerous and unethical, leading to tragic consequences. The film explores themes of ambition, journalistic ethics, and human morality.
