A 2003 American action film directed by Ringo Lam. The story follows Kyle LeBlanc (Jean-Claude Van Damme), an American working in Magnitogorsk, Russia. One day, while on the phone with his wife, he hears her being attacked. Kyle rushes home but arrives too late to save her. The perpetrator, Sergei Kovic, who raped and murdered her, bribes the judge and is acquitted due to lack of evidence. Enraged, Kyle grabs a bailiff's gun and kills Sergei in the courtroom. He is sentenced to life imprisonment without parole and sent to Kravavi Prison, run by the corrupt warden, General Hruschov. Upon arrival, Kyle is beaten by guards for refusing to surrender his wedding ring. On his first night, he witnesses a young American inmate, Billy Cooper (Chris Moir), being taken by guards to a cell where he is raped by prison fighter and Russian mafia member Andrei (Michael Bailey Smith). The next day, a battered and traumatized Billy is sent to the infirmary. Kyle confronts Andrei, who provokes him, leading to a fight and Kyle's placement in solitary confinement. The prison hosts underground fights between inmates for the warden and guards' entertainment. Kyle is forced to participate to survive, gradually becoming a ruthless fighter and losing his humanity. However, his friendship with elderly inmate 451 (Lawrence Taylor) helps him retain hope and a desire for freedom. The film explores themes of vengeance, survival, and internal struggle in extreme conditions.
