A 2005 action-thriller film directed by Jean-François Richet, serving as a remake of John Carpenter's 1976 classic of the same name. Set in Detroit on New Year's Eve, the story unfolds in a nearly abandoned police precinct, Precinct 13, which is about to be decommissioned. Sergeant Jake Roenick (Ethan Hawke), a troubled cop haunted by a failed undercover mission, is in charge of the skeleton staff working through the night. When a prison transport is rerouted due to a snowstorm, notorious crime boss Marion Bishop (Laurence Fishburne) is temporarily housed in the precinct. As night falls, the precinct comes under siege, but the attackers are not street thugs—they are corrupt cops seeking to silence Bishop before he can expose their crimes. Roenick must rally the few officers and prisoners inside, including Bishop himself, to defend the building and survive the onslaught. The film also stars Maria Bello, Gabriel Byrne, John Leguizamo, Brian Dennehy, and Drea de Matteo. Blending intense action with moral ambiguity and psychological tension, the film explores themes of survival, trust, and integrity under fire.
