Replicant

A 2001 American science fiction action film directed by Ringo Lam. The plot centers on serial killer Edward "The Torch" Garrotte (Jean-Claude Van Damme), who murders women—specifically mothers—and sets their bodies on fire. Seattle police detective Jake Riley (Michael Rooker) has spent three years attempting to apprehend Garrotte. Days before his retirement, Garrotte strikes again, but Jake is removed from the case. During his retirement party, Jake receives a call from Garrotte, who threatens his loved ones. Realizing the necessity of stopping the killer, Jake agrees to consult on a secret government project. Scientists have created a clone of Garrotte from DNA found at a crime scene. This "Replicant" has the body of an adult male but the mind of a child. Jake is tasked with training him and utilizing the clone's genetic memories to capture the original. Together, they embark on a hunt for Garrotte, facing challenges related to the Replicant's dual nature, his telepathic link to the killer, and his attempts to understand the world around him. The film explores themes of identity, the nature of evil, and the possibility of redemption, blending elements of action and science fiction.
