G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

An American science fiction action film from 2009, directed by Stephen Sommers. The movie is based on Hasbro's G.I. Joe toy line and serves as the first installment in the G.I. Joe film series. The plot follows two American soldiers, Captain Duke Hauser (Channing Tatum) and his partner Ripcord (Marlon Wayans), who are assigned to transport advanced weaponry developed by M.A.R.S., a company owned by James McCullen (Christopher Eccleston). During the transport, their convoy is ambushed by a terrorist group led by the Baroness (Sienna Miller), who turns out to be Duke's former fiancée, Ana Lewis. The soldiers survive thanks to the intervention of the elite G.I. Joe team, consisting of General Clayton Hawk (Dennis Quaid), Scarlett (Rachel Nichols), Snake Eyes (Ray Park), Breaker (Saïd Taghmaoui), and Heavy Duty (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). Duke and Ripcord join the G.I. Joe team and set out to recover the stolen weaponry. During their mission, they uncover that McCullen, also known as Destro, along with his ally, the mysterious Doctor (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), plan to use nanotechnology-based weapons to create chaos and establish a new world order. The G.I. Joe team faces various challenges, including confrontations with the ninja Storm Shadow (Lee Byung-hun) and uncovering the true motives of the Baroness. In the film's climax, the heroes prevent the launch of nanomite warheads, destroy the villains' Arctic base, and capture McCullen and the Doctor, who assumes the identity of Cobra Commander. However, Zartan (Arnold Vosloo), a master of disguise, replaces the President of the United States, hinting at the continuation of the story.
