A 2009 American science fiction action film directed by John Hyams. It is the fifth installment in the "Universal Soldier" series and serves as an alternative sequel to the original 1992 film, disregarding the events of "Universal Soldier: The Return" and the two 1998 television sequels. The plot centers on a group of terrorists led by Commander Topov (Zahary Baharov), who kidnap the children of the Ukrainian prime minister and seize control of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, threatening to detonate it and cause radioactive contamination. To strengthen their position, they deploy a Next Generation UniSol (NGU) (Andrei Arlovski), an almost invincible fighter. In response, the American military reactivates Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme), who has been undergoing rehabilitation after previous missions. Despite his psychological and physical scars, Deveraux agrees to assist. During the mission, he confronts the NGU and a clone of his former adversary, Sergeant Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren). The film is packed with intense combat sequences and explores themes of control, humanity, and the consequences of military technology.
