War of the Worlds​

A 2005 American science fiction action film directed by Steven Spielberg, based on H.G. Wells' 1898 novel of the same name. The film follows Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise), an ordinary dockworker from New Jersey, who is trying to improve his relationship with his children—teenage son Robbie (Justin Chatwin) and ten-year-old daughter Rachel (Dakota Fanning)—after his divorce from their mother Mary Ann (Miranda Otto). During their time together, Earth is suddenly and devastatingly invaded by aliens operating giant tripod war machines. Ray is forced to take responsibility for his children's safety, navigating through the chaos and destruction caused by the invasion. As they journey toward Boston, where the children's mother resides, they encounter destroyed cities, widespread panic among the population, and relentless alien attacks. In their struggle for survival, they meet various individuals, including a paranoid survivalist named Harlan Ogilvy (Tim Robbins), who offers them shelter but soon exhibits instability due to stress. The film explores themes of human resilience, family bonds, and the fight for survival in the face of an incomprehensible threat.​
