War of the Worlds

A 2005 American science fiction action film directed by Steven Spielberg, based on H.G. Wells' 1898 novel of the same name. The film follows Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise), an ordinary dockworker from New Jersey, who is trying to improve his relationship with his children—teenage son Robbie (Justin Chatwin) and ten-year-old daughter Rachel (Dakota Fanning)—after his divorce from their mother Mary Ann (Miranda Otto). During their time together, Earth is suddenly and devastatingly invaded by aliens operating giant tripod war machines.
