Despite its title, the show has not aired live since 2004 due to a censorship issue involving unbleeped profanity. Taped at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, the program features Kimmel's monologues, celebrity interviews, musical performances, and comedy sketches. Regular contributors include the house band Cleto and the Cletones, security guard Guillermo Rodriguez, and Kimmel's cousin Sal Iacono. A notable running gag involves actor Matt Damon, whom Kimmel humorously claims they "ran out of time" for at the end of episodes.
