An American true crime anthology television series created by René Balcer, it is the sixth spin-off of the "Law & Order" franchise, and NBC ran it over seven autumn weeks in 2017, between September 26 and November 14. The first season, titled "The Menendez Murders," consists of eight episodes and focuses on the real-life case of brothers Lyle (Miles Gaston Villanueva) and Erik Menendez (Gus Halper), who, in 1989, shot and killed their wealthy parents, José and Kitty Menendez, in Beverly Hills. The series delves deeply into the crime itself and the subsequent trial, highlighting the efforts of defense attorney Leslie Abramson (Edie Falco) to prove that the brothers acted under the influence of years of physical and emotional abuse inflicted by their parents. It also examines how the media turned the case into a national sensation and how public opinion affected the judicial proceedings. The narrative pays particular attention to the internal struggles of the characters, their motivations, and moral dilemmas, adding depth and drama to the story. Despite positive critical reception and strong performances, especially by Edie Falco, the series was not renewed for a second season and remains the sole installment in this anthology.
