Legends of the Fall

This 1994 American historical drama, directed by Edward Zwick and based on Jim Harrison's novella, follows the Ludlow family living in the remote wilderness of Montana in the early 20th century. Colonel William Ludlow (Anthony Hopkins), disillusioned by U.S. policies toward Native Americans, retires to raise his three sons: Alfred (Aidan Quinn), Tristan (Brad Pitt), and Samuel (Henry Thomas). Samuel returns from Harvard with his fiancée Susannah (Julia Ormond) but soon enlists in World War I, followed by his brothers. Samuel is killed in action, leading a guilt-ridden Tristan to leave Montana, while Alfred marries Susannah, causing familial tensions. Tristan eventually returns, marries Isabel Two (Karina Lombard), and they have children. The family's life is further complicated by Prohibition-era conflicts with bootleggers and personal tragedies. Spanning nearly five decades, the film explores themes of love, war, betrayal, and familial bonds. It won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography (John Toll) and marked a significant point in Brad Pitt's acting career.
