Masters of the Universe

A 2026 fantasy adventure with a superhero footing, directed by Travis Knight. Prince Adam crashes on Earth at the age of ten and is parted from the Sword of Power. Fifteen years later the sword finds him of its own accord and leads him back to Eternia, the planet he came from. The home he remembers is no longer there: the sorcerer Skeletor holds power. The heart of Eternia is Castle Grayskull, an ancient stronghold with a power locked inside it: whoever gets in and takes it commands everything. Skeletor is after the same entrance, and the whole story of the franchise rests on holding the castle and holding the Sword. Adam joins his own people, the warrior Teela and the armourer Duncan, and takes up what he was cut off from for fifteen years: the sword turns him into the warrior He-Man. His central choice is stated in the name itself, as he stops being a prince in exile and becomes the one Eternia was waiting for. The source began in the first half of the 1980s as a toy line, then moved into comics and animated series; this picture is its first live-action form. Nicholas Galitzine and Camila Mendes take the leading parts, with Idris Elba, Jared Leto, Alison Brie, Morena Baccarin, James Purefoy and Charlotte Riley alongside them. The director came to it from stop-motion animation: he ran the Laika studio and made Kubo and the Two Strings. Chris Butler wrote the screenplay and Daniel Pemberton composed the score. The adaptation spent years in development, postponed and passed between directors before it reached a camera. The picture opened in cinemas on 18 May 2026 and reached the remaining territories in early June. Reception carried no reverence: reviewers called it delightfully silly and noted that it makes no secret of having come from a toy line.
