Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle

A 2018 adventure drama directed by Andy Serkis, based on Rudyard Kipling's collection "All the Mowgli Stories". The film follows a human child, Mowgli (Rohan Chand), raised by a pack of wolves in the jungles of India. Under the guidance of the panther Bagheera (Christian Bale) and the bear Baloo (Andy Serkis), Mowgli learns the laws of the jungle and becomes an integral part of it. However, the man-eating tiger Shere Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch) perceives him as a threat and seeks to eliminate him. As Mowgli grows, he faces the dilemma of staying in the jungle or returning to human civilization. He finds refuge in a village where he's taken in by a woman named Messua (Freida Pinto) and meets hunter John Lockwood (Matthew Rhys), who exploits Mowgli to hunt animals. Realizing Lockwood's true intentions and the danger he poses to the jungle, Mowgli decides to confront Shere Khan and protect his home. The film features realistic portrayals of animal characters using motion capture technology, with performances by actors such as Cate Blanchett (python Kaa), Naomie Harris (wolf Nisha), Peter Mullan (wolf Akela), and Tom Hollander (hyena Tabaqui). Unlike previous adaptations, this version is darker and closer to Kipling's original works, exploring themes of identity, belonging, and the conflict between nature and civilization. Initially slated for release in October 2016, the film's release was delayed to refine visual effects. Eventually, Netflix acquired the rights, and it was released on the platform on December 7, 2018. "Mowgli" received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the visual effects and performances but noted tonal inconsistencies. Despite this, the film found its audience and was appreciated for offering a more mature and profound interpretation of the classic story.​
