The 2012 American animated fantasy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures, directed by Mark Andrews, Brenda Chapman, and Steve Purcell. Set in medieval Scotland, the story follows Princess Merida (Kelly Macdonald), a headstrong and adventurous daughter of King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). Merida is expected to marry a suitor from one of the allied clans, but she desires independence and control over her own fate. Defying tradition, she seeks help from a mysterious witch (Julie Walters), who gives her a magical spell promising to change her destiny. However, the spell backfires, transforming Queen Elinor into a bear. Realizing her mistake, Merida embarks on a perilous journey to break the curse, uncovering an ancient legend about a fallen prince and its connection to her family. Meanwhile, King Fergus, unaware that the bear is his own wife, sets out to hunt it down. Racing against time, Merida must mend the bond between herself and her mother, learning the value of family, love, and responsibility. In a climactic moment, she successfully reverses the spell, restoring Elinor to her human form. The film concludes with the kingdom united and Merida embracing both her independence and duty.
