Epic

An American animated fantasy film released in 2013, produced by Blue Sky Studios and directed by Chris Wedge, is based on William Joyce's children's book "The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs". The story follows teenager Mary Katherine, or M.K. (voiced by Amanda Seyfried), who, after her mother's death, returns to live with her estranged father, Professor Bomba (Jason Sudeikis), obsessed with discovering a hidden miniature world in the forest. Skeptical of her father's beliefs, M.K. is suddenly shrunk and finds herself in the midst of an epic battle between the noble Leafmen, who protect the forest, and the malevolent Boggans, who seek to destroy it. In this hidden realm, she encounters the brave warrior Ronin (Colin Farrell), the young rebel Nod (Josh Hutcherson), the wise Queen Tara (Beyoncé Knowles), and the comedic duo of slug Mub (Aziz Ansari) and snail Grub (Chris O'Dowd). Together, they strive to thwart the evil Mandrake (Christoph Waltz), who wields dark powers to annihilate nature. The film delves into themes of ecology, familial bonds, and self-sacrifice, blending an engaging narrative with vibrant animation and a star-studded voice cast.
