New Year's Eve

A 2011 American romantic comedy directed by Garry Marshall and written by Katherine Fugate, "New Year's Eve" is an ensemble film set in New York City on December 31st, weaving together multiple storylines about love, hope, forgiveness, and new beginnings. The film features Claire (Hilary Swank), who oversees the Times Square ball drop and must resolve technical issues with the help of a former electrician; Ingrid (Michelle Pfeiffer), a shy secretary determined to fulfill her New Year's resolutions with the assistance of young courier Paul (Zac Efron); Laura (Katherine Heigl), a chef confronting her ex-boyfriend Jensen (Jon Bon Jovi), a rock star performing at the New Year's concert; Kim (Sarah Jessica Parker), a mother dealing with her teenage daughter Hailey (Abigail Breslin), who wants to celebrate with friends; and Sam (Josh Duhamel), a businessman stranded outside the city, trying to reach a party where he hopes to reunite with a woman he met the previous year. The film also stars Robert De Niro as a terminally ill patient wishing to see the ball drop, along with Halle Berry, Sofia Vergara, Ludacris, Lea Michele, and others. Despite its star-studded cast, the film received predominantly negative reviews for its superficiality and predictability but grossed $142 million worldwide against a $56 million budget.
