A hockey simulator and one of the most successful entries in the NHL series by EA Sports, NHL 09 introduces enhanced gameplay mechanics, expanded modes, and realistic controls. A major innovation was the "Be a Pro" mode, allowing players to create their own hockey player and guide them from a rookie to a league superstar, participating in matches and developing skills. The right stick "Skill Stick" control system became more precise, while a new checking system added realism to on-ice collisions. For the first time in the series, online leagues were introduced, enabling players to form teams and compete in multiplayer tournaments. The game’s graphics were improved with detailed player models, realistic animations, and updated arenas.
