A 1986 American comedy-drama directed in the USA by Garry Marshall. The film follows David Basner (Tom Hanks), a successful yet immature advertising executive in Chicago, whose life takes a turn when his mother Lorraine (Eva Marie Saint) leaves his father Max (Jackie Gleason) after 36 years of marriage. David is compelled to care for his aging father, who loses his job and suffers from diabetes, while also providing emotional support to his mother. Balancing his career and family responsibilities proves challenging, especially as he works on a campaign for Colonial Airlines and becomes involved with Cheryl Ann Wayne (Sela Ward), the owner's daughter. His relationship with ex-girlfriend Donna (Bess Armstrong) adds further complexity. As events unfold, David realizes the importance of family and responsibility, particularly when his father is hospitalized and requires surgery. The film marked Jackie Gleason's final performance before his death and signified Tom Hanks' transition from comedic roles to more dramatic performances.
