Officer Black Belt

The 2024 South Korean action comedy film, directed and written by Jason Kim, follows Lee Jung-do, a young man holding black belts in taekwondo, kendo, and judo, who spends his days playing video games with friends and working as a delivery rider for his father's fried chicken restaurant. One day, he assists probation officer Cho Min-jo in apprehending a violent parolee, earning commendation and an offer to join the Ministry of Justice's team of "martial arts officers." In this role, he utilizes his combat skills to monitor parolees equipped with electronic ankle bracelets and to suppress violence in emergencies. Jung-do quickly bonds with his mentor, Kim Sun-min, and their work instills in him a strong sense of justice. When notorious child molester Kang Ki-jung is released on parole, Jung-do and Sun-min are assigned to monitor him. Despite constant surveillance, Ki-jung reunites with his accomplice Han Byung-soon and conspires with dark web pornographer Kim Min-wook to produce child exploitation material. After abducting a young girl, Jung-do and his colleagues are lured into a trap set by former parolees seeking revenge. As a result, Cho Min-jo is killed, and Kim Sun-min sustains serious injuries. Despite his own injuries, Jung-do manages to rescue the kidnapped girl and continues his fight for justice. The film was released on Netflix on September 13, 2024, and received positive reviews for its dynamic action sequences and humor.
