The Last Mercenary

A 2021 French action-comedy film directed by David Charhon. The story follows Richard Brumère (Jean-Claude Van Damme), a former elite mercenary who vanished from public view years ago after making a deal with the government. However, he is forced out of hiding when he learns that his son, Archibald (Samir Decazza), whom he had never known, has been falsely accused of illegal arms and drug trafficking. This happens due to the cancellation of a state protection program that had safeguarded Archibald in recognition of his father’s past services, making him an easy target for powerful criminal organizations. Richard must return to the battlefield to protect his son and uncover the conspiracy behind the false charges. Along the way, he teams up with a group of unlikely but endearing allies, including the cunning street hustler Dalila (Assa Sylla), her quirky friend Momo (Djimo), and an eccentric former bureaucrat named Thierry (Éric Judor). Together, they take on corrupt government officials, ruthless criminals, and an elaborate network of deceit. The film blends high-energy action sequences, Van Damme’s signature fighting style, comedic moments, and a heartfelt family story as Richard learns not only how to defeat his enemies but also how to be a father.
