Papillon

A 2017 crime drama film directed by Michael Noer, based on the autobiographical books by Henri Charrière. The film is a remake of the 1973 movie of the same name. Set in 1930s France, it follows safecracker Henri "Papillon" Charrière (Charlie Hunnam), who is wrongfully convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment in a penal colony in French Guiana. In prison, he meets a forger, Louis Dega (Rami Malek), who agrees to fund an escape attempt in exchange for protection. Their partnership endures brutal prison conditions, betrayals, and years of solitary confinement. Despite numerous setbacks, Papillon remains determined to escape and reclaim his freedom from the hellish penal island.
